Code of Ethics
Preamble
Under all is the land. Upon its wise
utilization and widely allocated ownership
depend the survival and growth of free
institutions and of our civilization. Realtors

should recognize that the interests of the
nation and its citizens require the highest and
best use of the land and the widest distribution
of land ownership. They require the creation of
adequate housing, the building of functioning
cities, the development of productive industries
and farms, and the preservation of a healthful
environment.
Such interests impose obligations beyond those
of ordinary commerce. They impose grave social
responsibility and a patriotic duty to which
Realtors

should dedicate themselves, and for which they
should be diligent in preparing themselves. R
ealtors

,
therefore, are zealous to maintain and improve
the standards of their calling and share with
their fellow R
ealtors

a
common responsibility for its integrity and
honor...
The term R
ealtors

has come to connote
competency, fairness, and high integrity
resulting from adherence to a lofty ideal of
moral conduct in business relations. No
inducement of profit and no instruction from
clients ever can justify departure from this
ideal.
In the interpretation of this obligation, R
ealtors

can take no safer guide than that
which has been handed down through the
centuries, embodied in the Golden Rule,
Whatsoever
ye would that others should do to you, do ye
even so to them.

Basic Principles of the Code of

13. Do not engage in the unauthorized practice
of law.

procedures.

estate professionals are truthful, and not
misleading.

have with their clients.

Choosing a Realtor in Middle Tennessee means working with a professional who has pledged to uphold a written code of ethics, one that emphasizes honesty, transparency, and fair dealing in every transaction. That commitment is not simply a marketing slogan; it is a daily standard that shapes how listings are presented, how negotiations are handled, and how client information is safeguarded. Buyers and sellers benefit when the people guiding them are held to a higher bar than the law requires. The Sumner Association of REALTORS serves a wide and varied service area, stretching from the shoreline of Old Hickory Lake through Hendersonville, Gallatin, and Castalian Springs, then rolling outward into the countryside communities of White House, Cottontown, and Portland. To the north, the reach continues into Macon County, including the small towns of Lafayette and Red Boiling Springs. Each of these places carries its own character, and a knowledgeable local Realtor can translate neighborhood nuance into confident decisions for clients. Being a member of a local association offers more than a name on a directory. Realtors gain access to ongoing education, peer accountability, and a professional network that spans multiple counties and specialties. For consumers, that network translates into a deeper bench of trusted advisors who can recommend inspectors, lenders, and contractors, and who share a common framework for resolving questions or concerns should they arise during the course of a real estate relationship. Communities throughout Middle Tennessee are tied together by practical geography, with downtown Nashville and its international airport reachable in a matter of minutes from much of Sumner and Macon counties. That proximity shapes the regional market, influencing commute patterns, school choices, and long term planning for households at every stage of life. A local Realtor understands how those regional connections ripple into neighborhood level decisions and opportunities. The strongest real estate relationships begin with shared expectations and clear communication, qualities that are reinforced when both sides understand the standards of practice that govern the profession. Consumers are encouraged to ask questions, request referrals, and learn about the resources available through their Realtor and the broader association. Taking that first step sets the tone for a working partnership built on mutual respect and informed choice. |
